Counting down to the first residency

There’s only three weeks until I begin my first residency for the MFA. I’ve had the residency packet for a couple weeks and have been doing big piles of reading in preparation for this. They’ve added a few new instructors and since one of the workshop sessions will be what’s billed as a “wildcard session” with a workshop leader other than the usual workshop leader, I’m reading books by those instructors who I’ve not previously read (currently one chapter into Porochista Khakpour’s Sons and other Flammable Objects), along with a stack of books for a seminar on theory of poetry (there are some parallel sessions and in this case, I decided it would be more interesting to go to the poetry seminar than the prose seminar which is called “Structuring Long-Form Non-fiction” which might be interesting, but I think that the other will be even more so). For that I’m about two-thirds done with James Gleick’s The Information: A History, A Theory, A Flood, which makes for a useful and interesting companion to a book on information theory I’ve been slogging through for a while.
