This month I workshopped a new story, and while it didn’t get the rapturous reception that I hoped it would (largely a generational thing, I think), it was paradoxically a boost in my mind for the story. Getting a chance to see who responded lukewarmly and why made me feel more secure in what I was doing and feel good about sending it out. I had a similar experience with my first published story, so I think there’s something here. It was also fun to see readers spot things that I hadn’t (consciously) put into the story that, nevertheless, were definitely there.
Progress on new stuff and revision work is slow, but some progress. I’m still doing a major rewrite of the opening chapters of the novel which maybe I’ll have done in time to take advantage of my paid year on querytracker.
Another poem accepted. I seem definitely to be in poet mode these days.
